80% of politics is rationalization, 20% is genuine attempts at planning, and 100% of it is reactive. The world is getting more complex so much faster than the brightest minds in any government can catch up with it. No country can execute a 10-year plan anymore. People still write smart-ass books on the so-called geopolitics but they all end up wrong in more aspects than they figure out correctly. And even the correct takes are almost always just wild guesses as there are so many voices out there that someone simply ought to get it somewhat right.
Politicians are skilled at climbing the ladder, not at policy-making or establishing efficient business processes within governing structures. Behind propaganda, fake news, multi-layered kayfabe, and “deep” revelations of analysts there is incompetence, parasitism, and abuse of power. Once having climbed their way to the establishment, these guys turn their ladders into surfing boards and ride the wave of too many stimuli. It’s nearly impossible to make sense of it to call them out on their bullshit.
Some local politicians are exempt from this and may work diligently. But whatever you hear from a person somewhere close to the top of the hierarchy, it’s either sheer incompetence or covert ladder-climbing.
Maybe it has been obvious to you but I’m only coming to believe that 99.9% of all politics is fake professionalism and narrative creation. I have nothing to add here.
Only that we all should get more educated. So that, when the time comes, we don’t miss the chance to take it all in our hands and fix the world.
